I get the appeal of one-stop shops. I do. But the conventional wisdom that it's safer to buy everything from one factory is backwards. Everything I'd read said consolidation is key. In practice, I found the opposite: the more product categories a factory has, the more quality issues I found in their secondary lines.

The First $890 Mistake: WPC Material Is Not an Afterthought

WPC material is not just 'wood + plastic.' It's a careful balance of fiber loading, coupling agents, heat stabilizers, and process control. But Isn't One Supplier Faster?

My best guess is it comes down to how carefully they control the foaming line temperature and cooling profile. But I'm not a process engineer. What I do know is that the right manufacturer will tell you where their capabilities end. That's a feature, not a flaw.

As of mid-2024, the standards I see most often in our specs are ASTM D6662 for wood-plastic composites and ASTM D4216 for rigid PVC compounds. Those are starting points, not guarantees.
